解答 2.weeding
My father was busy ( weeding ) the garden this morning.
今朝、私の父は庭の草むしりをしていて忙しかった
be busy (in) doing で「～するので忙しい」という意味になります。
なお、後ろに名詞が続くときは be busy with / at / about～、などとします。
例）
She is busy with her homework.
彼女は宿題で忙しい
第２問
解答 2. sound
When I came home, I found my children were ❨ sound ❩ asleep on their bed.
家に帰ると、子供たちはベッドでぐっすりと眠っていた
sound asleep で「ぐっすりと」という意味になります。
be動詞、もしくはfallをともない、be sound asleep：ぐっすり眠っている、fall sound asleep：ぐっすりと眠りこむのように使います。
第３問
解答 2. Where was it
❨ Where was it ❩ that you went after school yesterday?
昨日の放課後、いったいどこに行っていたの？
It is ～ that …の強調構文の問題です。
本問は、強調構文でwhereが強調された形になっています。
強調をしていない形から考えていくと、
1. Where did you go after school yesterday?
2. It was where that you went after school yesterday.
(whereをit is ～ thatの位置に置き、残りを肯定文の語順に直す[did you go→you went])
3. Where was it that you went after school yesterday?
(疑問詞Whereは文頭に移動し、was it と倒置する)
となります。
